I understand the appeal of gig work. You set your own schedule and you do not have a boss in the traditional sense. It also helps with earning extra income if you already have a full time job.
However if you’re doing this work, you should know the tradeoffs:
1) extremely low wages after fees and gas (don’t hide from your insurance that you are using your vehicle for gig work and get into an accident!).
2) no protection like 9-5 and I think some self employed folks (yall can correct me if I’m wrong).
3) you can be removed from the service if you get a unverified complaint and it would be hell to get reinstated.
Is it exploitative? You can argue that it is, but you ultimately signed the contract.
As we are bossing up in our own ways, we just have to understand that unless you have a high income skill that you can ultimately montize whether it is in corporate, blue collar or self employment (think AI platform engineering, content creation, sales, electrical engineering, etc) you will be ...
