Fellas if you're serious about doing this Free Agent lifestyle get your affairs in order especially if you want to travel or be overseas. I recently ran into the issue of accidentally overstaying my visa in Vietnam by 3wks. I got barred from boarding my flight the day i was flying out and had to figure out my situation in a communist country. Luckily for me I have have a cushion of saving to get my own accommodations while figuring things out due to this unexpected turn of event. I f you don't speak the language or know the right people your situation can be 100x worse, always have a local that knows the right people handle situation like these. the US consulate isn't much help either unless its about losing your passport and replacing it. which was not my situation. But I got very lucky to have met a Vietnamese lady at the immigration office that spoke zero English but knew the right people to expedite my application and fix my situation which costed me an extra $1700 which covered the fine I had to pay, her services fee and finding a translator for us to communicate effectively. Not only was my situation taken care of fast she got me an 90day extended visa at the same time. Even though Vietnam is communist to us Foreigners the right local know it mostly functions off of scratching the right palms to get things done. Do not come to Vietnam broke, they have tighten immigration rules which were effective March of 2026 thats why my fine to leave the country was so high but I could afford it.
Just to close things up for those that do plan to come to Vietnam message me if you're interested to have the contact of my immigration rep that took care of my situation on very short notice, I want to pass along the lesson for this group that way it can help anyone interested as well as show gratitude for the person that really helped me out in a situation that could have been 10x worse. Boss up is the only way forward.
